About this directory

What this directory is

PJ Cafe is a directory of 432 cafe businesses in Petaling Jaya, built for people who want a straight answer to “where’s a decent cafe near me” without wading through ad-stuffed lists or paid-first results. Whether you’re a resident hunting for a reliable morning spot or a visitor scouting somewhere to work for an afternoon, the goal is the same: give you facts and a ranking you can actually trust.

We are not a review platform and we don’t ask businesses to sign up. Instead we assemble each listing from two kinds of sources: public business information (things like location, hours, price range, and amenities) and a synthesis of recent Google reviews. We don’t republish review text wholesale. We read the pattern of recent feedback, summarise what it says about a place, and link out to the source on Google so you can read the original reviews yourself.

How rankings are earned

Every ranking on this site comes from a published rubric applied to data, not from opinion or negotiation. The factors, weightings, and scoring logic are laid out in full on our methodology page, so you can check our working rather than take our word for it. A cafe’s position moves because its data changed (better recent sentiment, updated hours, more consistent service signals), never because someone paid for a better spot.

Sponsorship, kept separate

Some listings on PJ Cafe carry paid sponsorship. When that happens, it’s labelled “Sponsored,” shown in its own section, and kept visually distinct from the earned ranking. Sponsorship buys visibility, not a better score. It never changes a business’s rank, rating, or sentiment summary. If a listing isn’t marked “Sponsored,” it isn’t.

What a business can and can’t change

Any cafe listed here can flag corrections to its own factual details: address, phone number, hours, menu basics, that sort of thing. What a listed business cannot do is edit its own score, its sentiment summary, or its ranking. Those are generated from the data and the rubric, applied the same way to every listing, and they stay outside the reach of the business being ranked.

Who’s behind it

PJ Cafe is published by ADE Local Guide, a small publishing team that has been building data-driven local guides in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia since 2020, with a focus on cafes. We build listings from published review data and public business information rather than paid placement, and we refresh our full dataset monthly to keep things current. Each listing also carries its own “last verified” stamp, so you can see exactly when that particular entry was last checked rather than assuming the whole site was updated at once.

Editorial oversight of the rankings sits with Lee Kins, Managing Director, who is responsible for how the rubric is applied and maintained. For questions, corrections, or sponsorship inquiries, reach the publisher at hello@ademarketing.my, or visit ademarketing.my for more on the team’s other local guides.

FAQ

Does PJ Cafe accept payment to rank a business higher?
No. Sponsorship, when present, is labelled clearly and shown separately. It never affects a business's earned score or ranking.
Can a cafe change its own rating on the site?
A listed business can correct factual details like hours or address, but it cannot edit its score, sentiment summary, or ranking. Those come from our rubric applied to the data.
How often is the information updated?
The full dataset is refreshed monthly. Each listing also shows a last verified date so you can see when that specific entry was last checked.
Who is responsible for the rankings?
Lee Kins, Managing Director at ADE Local Guide, has editorial oversight of how the ranking rubric is built and applied.
